If something or someone isn’t serving you (I don’t mean in an Applebee’s waitress or BDSM sort of way), get rid of it and them.

To get you started, here is a brief list of things to ditch in 2024.

**Peri-menopause alert — I’m over 50 so some of these skew AARP-ish.

Complicated Routines

Why bring these into the new year? When you were a mall kid in the 80s you had time for a three-hour morning hair, makeup and nails routine. A girl at my high school woke up at 4:30 am every morning to make sure her makeup was overdone, and her hair was sufficiently Aquanetted. If I passed her on the street without makeup on, no chance I would recognize her. Her fingernails were foot-long claws, each with a more intricate design than the last. I’m certain they told some epic tale like The Iliad or The Odyssey or Knight Rider.

In contrast, my high school routine was decidedly more minimalist. Teeth brushed, Guess jeans from Nordstrom Rack, Bonne Bell Lip Smackers gloss. Done. (I saw Lip Smackers in the Dr…
